Learn how to make this silky, creamy, and simply divine Instant Pot Dulce de Leche in just 40 minutes! All you need is one ingredient!

Instant Pot Dulce de Leche

Instant Pot Dulce de Leche is a creamy sauce made from cooking sweetened condensed milk until a beautiful golden, caramelized color is achieved. It is often confused with caramel, but the two are different things. Dulce de Leche is made with sweetened condensed milk, while the caramel is made with sugar and water.

Traditionally, Dulce de Leche is cooked on a stovetop by submerging unopened cans of sweetened condensed milk in water, letting it boil, and cooking it for 4-6 hours! Who has time for that, right?

Discover The Possibilities!

When I discovered that you can achieve the same thing in less than an hour with an Instant Pot, I was overjoyed! After all, Dulce de Leche is one of those sauces that just go perfect with anything: bread, cheesecakes, cakes, brownies, ice cream, cookies, pancakes, and even fruits like apples and bananas! You can even eat it on its own!

And the best news about this Instant Pot Dulce de Leche is that you only need one ingredient: sweetened condensed milk.

Instant Pot Dulce de Leche Condensed Milk

If you have ever wanted to make Dulce de Leche but have always hesitated because you’re worried about the cans exploding, do not worry! This recipe will not involve unopened cans of condensed milk.

Are you ready to make it?

Here’s How

First, just take a can of sweetened condensed milk and peel off the label. Then, remove the lid.

You only need one can, but to maximize the use of the Instant Pot and because I absolutely LOVE Dulce de Leche, I am using two cans here. Depending on the size of your Instant Pot, you could definitely use more than two cans, as long as they would fit.

After removing the lid, cover the cans tightly with aluminum foil. Make sure that it is secure enough that no water will seep through.

Place a trivet inside your Instant Pot and place the foil-covered cans on top of it. Make sure that it is stable.

Fill the Instant Pot with water up to halfway through the sides of the cans.

Use a potholder or a pair of tongs to remove the cans from the Instant Pot. Very carefully, remove the foil and transfer the now-cooked Dulce de Leche onto a bowl.

Don’t Worry, We’re Getting There

Don’t worry if it looks like a mess like in the photo below! It will take just a few seconds to make it creamy and smooth using a whisk or a handheld immersion blender.

Whisk or blend until a smooth consistency is achieved like in the photo below. Note that at this point, the Dulce de Leche is still hot so the consistency is pourable. As it cools down, it will set and become a lot thicker.

Transfer the Dulce de Leche to a mason jar or glass jar. The Dulce will last up to one month stored in a jar or container with a lid, and refrigerated.

And there you have it! It’s so fast, easy, and hassle-free!
